Fellow MMA blog CagePotato.com picked up on comments made by Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture (18-10-0) prior to UFC 117 last weekend where the trainer of former top female contender Gina ‘Conviction’ Carano (7-1-0) offered the following thoughts on her future in the fight game:

“Gina just did a movie that’s going to be coming out soon. I haven’t seen her in the gym, haven’t talked to her in nine months,” Couture revealed. “I’m not sure where she’s at. I know the movie is going to be very big for her and I’d be very surprised to see her back in the cage.”

The movie Couture refers to is titled Haywire which is being directed by the highly talented Steven Soderbergh and is set for release sometime in 2011. Carano holds the leading role in Haywire as badass female super soldier Mallory Kane who is employed by the government to take on extraordinary international missions in a high-paced action thriller. With the film set for major theatrical release and Carano poised for commercial success – read big Hollywood dollars – her days suffering punches, kicks, and chokes inside the cage may well be numbered.

By no means are Couture’s statements an admission of her retirement from fighting, but with a nine month layoff and a bright horizon of non-violent, high-paying opportunities ahead of her it could well be that Carano’s loss to Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos (10-1-0) last summer was the last fight of her professional career.

She sounds like a female version of rambo. Are they going to start letting these people “win ” these missions. It`s nice to know that there females like that in this world. Let me know if she needs any help. Rob.
