For nearly eight weeks Urijah ‘The California’ Kid Faber (23-4-0) had been rehabilitating a knee injury suffered during training camp, and after a few minor setbacks it was announced yesterday that the former WEC featherweight champion has been medically cleared to resume fighting and is expected to face Takeya Mizugaki (13-4-2) at WEC 52 in a bantamweight bout this November.
As of yet an official announcement regarding Faber’s return to action has not bee made, but WEC CEO Reed Harris told MMAJunkie.com:
“He was good for September probably, but we had our card set already in Denver, so he’s going to fight in November. And I think he’s going to fight Takeya Mizugaki.”
The bout will serve as Faber’s debut at 135lbs,. though the fighter said he is not committed to any one division and sees himself fluctuating between bantam and featherweight depending on the opportunities that arise.
